Along with doing art Nengudi is strongly committed to arts education. Currently an instructor at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in the Visual Arts and Performing Arts Department, she has always been involved with bringing arts programs emphasing diversity to the communities in which she resides.

Besides her individual efforts she has belonged to a variety of organizations with similar goals. “Sharing each others cultures through the arts provides a true bridge to a healthy respect for one another and arts education in general provides a means to stimulate the mind and exercise creative problem solving”.

Presently Nengudi’s sculptures are taking the form of larger and larger installations and as she explores other medium she is experimenting also with a “What’s in a Name” personas concept.

There is a different persona used for each medium: Propecia Leigh – Photographer, Harriet Chin – Painter, Lily Bea Moor – Writer. Each name has personal and cultural significance.

Being part of the “sandwich generation” for years, her sons are now grown and on their own and after over ten years of around the clock caring for her Mom who now resides in a care facility, daily visits are still apart of the schedule, Nengudi and her husband Ellioutt now have the time and energy to devote to what they love as well as who they love. For Nengudi that means her art now has prominence.

Balancing art and family duties has been one of Senga's greatest challenges.

Family for Nengudi also includes supporting the arts in her community and her friends. Back
